No glitz or glamor, just great music!
The comparatively low cost of face value tickets is the first thing that comes to mind. It almost takes the sting out of TM's rampant and incessant pile of fees. Almost.
Coldplay could get higher prices for their tickets by now, and I don't know why they don't. But I'm very, very thankful that even I can afford a ticket to their shows once in a while. For around $50, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better live band. This was the 3rd time I've seen Coldplay in the past 2 years, but I'm still surprised by the sound these guys put out. Throw in the fact that this show was at Red Rocks, and it's a dream come true.
Unlike a lot of other bands who seem to run off stage once their clock ticks the magic number, Coldplay seems to just keep jamming until they've run out of energy. There are more Coldplay songs that I want to hear than they could possibly play in one show, but still, they play a long time.
If you kind of like their music on CD, I'm not going to convince you of why you should like Coldplay, but you should check them out live. I was a mediocre fan, liked some of their songs, but many seemed to be too slow to me. Then I saw them live. I was immediately hooked!! Now, I'm more into their live stuff than the studio recordings, though I like those more now too since I've seen them live.
They also put out the live recording of the show I was at via the web. This is a great added value or bonus that bands are doing more of it seems. In a time of way too many big fees attached to NOT printing a ticket and concerts costing well over $100, getting a free recording from the band of the show I just saw is an excellent way to connect directly with this fan anyway. And the fact that I don't have to go through some slimy 3rd party and pay another fee to get that recording, well, you just scored big points with me.
